East and a bit south of the Tri-Cities area you’ll find the communities of Surrey and Langley with a myriad of outdoor and indoor activities to explore.
Horseback Riding
In Langley, the Campbell Valley Regional Park offers quality horseback riding in an enchanted setting. Hop off your mount on a beautiful summer afternoon and pick wild blackberries for a snack. Pause with your partner in beautifully wooded privacy for a romantic interlude. Lessons, schedules and locations can be found at the Metro Vancouver Regional Web site.
Hot Air Ballooning
Located at the Langley Airport you’ll find a one-of-a-kind excursion at Fantasy Balloon Charters. Pick your favourite time of day - from sunrise to sunset - and enjoy a champagne breakfast or romantic, world-class dinner for two while soaring silently over the beautiful hills and valleys of the Surrey/Langley area. The perfect way to make up with your significant other or just keep the sparks flowing. Check out the Fantasy Balloon Charters Web site.
Snow Sports
For snow enthusiasts, Hemlock Valley Resort offers a laid-back atmosphere, slower lifts to the top of the runs and fine powder. Like a fine, aged wine, Hemlock Valley takes the skier back to a time when downhill skiing was a thrilling sport sans crowds and fancy resorts of most ski destinations. Recently purchased by new owners, some changes may be in the works, so if you like pristine snow in a natural setting, hurry up!
Swimming, Exercise and Other Sports
For indoor swimmers the Newton Wave Pool has it all. Check their schedule for public swim hours and you’ll be treated to water slides, children’s areas, as well as competition-sized pools. All this at great prices, with terrific food and wave action every half hour that feels like you’re actually in the ocean! Surrey also offers many tennis clinics for young and old alike at many of their tennis facilities. A bit south of Surrey is the Splashdown Waterpark in Tsawwassen. Here you’ll find all the summertime fun you can imagine – volleyball, water slides, wave pools, sunbathing beaches, basketball and mini golf. Sprinkle in some great food and live entertainment and you’ll understand why both locals and tourists flock there when the temperature rises. Get information on Splashdown Parks's Web site to find the best times to attend.
