Posted by

Why would you buy old interior decorations and furniture? There are many reasons but probably the most important is, that you are creating your own style while buying a little slice of history. Antique stores in Vancouver are a great source of original accessories and this photo-essay series features the city's best ones with one location after another, photographed for your convenience. After the eclectic Salmagundi West and Uniques, have a look at the second must-visit vintage shop in Vancouver!

Regularly featured in the Readers' Choice Awards both in the Georgia Straight and the West Ender, ReFind has made a name for itself in a neighbourhood known for antiques. Now in its eighth year, ReFind has developed a reputation not only for its characteristic mid-century furniture and art, but also for the legendary customer service and friendly attitude of its owner and operator, Bart. A survey of the reviews on Yelp shows customers equally enthused about the quality (and quantity) of pieces as with the laid-back and personable environment.

ReFind began not with the goal of riches and fame but to have a good time. "I'll never be rich but I'm going to have fun," Taylor is quoted on his website. Known for teak, rosewood, Danish, and Art Deco furnishings, lighting, and art, this shop will appeal to anyone looking to cultivate a sophisticated, modern aesthetic — or, more accurately, a 1960s vision of a modern aesthetic.

When I asked Bart what he credited with the popularity of his business, he reiterated the sentiment found on Yelp and other reviews. "It's all about having fun, leaving the customer the hell alone and giving them a good deal on prices." Talk about low-pressure sales.

In addition to finding and reselling pieces from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, ReFind has teamed up with furniture artisan Bennett Mitten to produce the ReDefind line of unique "condo-friendly" pieces. Free delivery is offered within Vancouver.

The best thing about ReFind is, that Bart is sharing the pictures of the new arrivals on his Instagram account (here), where you can also ask about the price. The best way how to avoid spending hours in the store!

How did the Ogee clock get in there? I didn’t recognize any name designer items. Just as there were used furniture stores in the 60s that had 1910s-20s stuff and in the 80s that had 1930s 40s stuff, there will be 2014 stores with 1960s stuff. Save all your 1990s stuff and you can open up in 2030!

I would love the arm wrestling machine but for 699 it would have to PRISTINE. I would offer him 350 if it works.
